Onion Chutney

Hello friends,

Today I prepared onion chutney. It is the simplest recipe available I presume. :) It goes along with rice really well and also with idlis and dosas.

The recipe goes as follows.

Ingredients: (For three people)

3 medium sized onions

5-6 Dry red chillies

¾ tsp tamarind paste

Salt to taste

Seasoning:

Vegetable oil (For seasoning and shallow frying)

½ tsp Mustard seeds

½ tsp Cumin seeds

½ tsp Urad dal

1 Red chilly

Few curry leaves

Method:

Chop the onions. Heat oil in a vessel and add the red chillies and chopped onions. Fry them until they become soft. Don’t let them become brown, or else it’ll taste bitter. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Grind the onion and chilly mixture with tamarind and salt to a fine paste.

Now, prepare the seasoning. Heat 2 tsp of oil. Add urad dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilly and curry leaves. Allow the mustard seeds to pop. As it stops popping pour the seasoning over the chutney.

Serve with rice, dosas or idlis :)

Do try this simple recipe and relish it :)

Till then Happy cooking :)
